Research And Planning-What's The Rating For Our Film

For our film we have decided to rate it 12. The reason we have given it this particular rating is because we want as many people as possible to see this film and to relate to this film. Another reason we have given it this rating is because films like "The Proposal" and "Just Married" all have ratings of 12. The reason we have given it a 12 and not a 15 because the reason most films are 15 is because they contain "sex and strong language" and thats not the message we want to give off with our film. The BBFC's Guidelines state that strong language like f*** etc, has to be uncommon at '12' or '12A' - puns on strong language is allowed. Moderate language like 'bitch' and 'twat' are allowed. In our film the lanuguage used will mainly be used in the social groups, for example "Josh don't be a twat". At '12' and '12A' moderate violence is allowed but it cannot be too detailed. They're should be no gory moments.Dangerous behaviour (for example hanging, suicide and self-harming) may be present in ‘12’ or ‘12A’ works but will not dwell on detail which could be copied or present those activities as pain or harm free. Weapons should not be glamorised in ‘12A’ and ‘12’ works. Discriminatory behaviour should not be endorsed by the film as a whole. There may be infrequent sight of drugs misuse in a ‘12’ or a ‘12A’ but the portrayal should not be glamorised or provide instructional details.
