Research And Planning-Film Ratings

The British Board of Film Classification rates both motion pictures and videos this also includes some video games. Local Authorities are responsible for accepting and enforcing the BBFC's recommended ratings for cinema showings. Whereas those for videos are legally Binding.



What Do Film Ratings Mean?

U(Universal)-Suitable For All Ages However The Board States That While They Cannot Predict What Upsets A Child, a "U" film should be suitable for audiences aged 4 and older.
PG (Parental Guidance) - General Viewing But Some Scenes May Be Unsuitable For Young Children.
12 A (12 Accompanied/Advisory)- Suitable For 12 Years and Over No-one Younger Than 12 Can See A "12A" film without an adult.
15- Suitable Only For 15 years and Over. No-one younger than 15 can see a "15" film or buy a "15" video.
18- Suitable Only For 18 years and Over. No-one younger than 18 can see a "18" film or Buy an 18 video.
R18 (Restricted 18)- To be shown only in licensed cinemas or supplied in adult video shops. No-one younger than 18 can see or purchase these films.
